Institutional Updates:

Louisiana Clinical & Translational Science Center: 

8/27/2025

• Rails Security and Upgrade Plans: Ying informed the group that Rails 7.0.8.1 has it’s end of life (Ruby on Rails) is no longer maintained and it’s recommended to move to 7.1.5.2 due to critical security alerts. They have upgraded) to 7.1.5.2, with plans to move to 7.2 once testing is complete. Brigette confirmed that this information would be relayed to the MUSC development team.

9/10/2025

• Working on Ruby on Rails upgrade to v7.2.

• Encountering “mime negotiation invalid type” exceptions post Ruby 7.0 upgrade with SPARC v3.13.0.

  • Suspected misconfiguration; MUSC has also received - Greg suggested it may be due to security scanners, suggested handling via configuration or middleware. Ying noted frequent batch errors and traced IPs to Amazon/Microsoft.

  • Association for Clinical and Translational Science Submission (ACTS) Translational Science 2026 Call for Scientific Sessions

    • SPARC will submit for another panel discussion in April 2026, similar to last year. Open-Source sites are invited to participate - LACaTS, OHSU and Case are already participants. Helen expressed interest in joining once their site is fully operational. Brigette will send Helen the information to consider.

• Discussion

  • VPAT Accessibility - any sites go through this process for the SPARCRequest instance?

    • No site has fully completed it due to its intensity & time constraints.

    • MUSC is beginning exploratory efforts using accessibility tools.

• Sparc and Fulfillment Release Schedule:

  • Transitioning to new test suite

  • SPARC v3.14.0 Release

  • SPARCFulfillment v.3.7.0 Release - testing Ruby Rails upgrade for Fulfillment (currently at Rails 6).

  • SPARCFulfillment v.3.8.0 Release

  • Planning a routine (Ruby/Rails) upgrades timeline to avoid needing to apply multiple versions at once.
