Description:

The goal of the SCTR KL2 program is to foster the discipline of clinical research and increase clinical research capacity through the training of junior faculty, bridging clinical and translational research training with research independence. The SCTR KL2 will provide mentored, protected research experiences to enhance the development and retention of early career investigators. The program includes the option to pursue a master's degree in clinical and translational science, a supportive environment, start-up research funds, and access to program faculty who will provide expertise and guidance in research design, measurement and questionnaire design, study coordination, data management, biostatistical analysis, publishing and presenting research, and grant writing.

Eligibility:

  • Degrees: Junior faculty (Instructor or Assistant Professor) or senior fellows pending faculty appointment with doctoral-level degrees. Examples include both Clinical Doctoral (MD, DrPH, PharmD, etc.) and Non-Clinical Doctoral (PhD, ScD).

  • Citizenship: Must be a US citizen or permanent resident

  • Employment: Must devote a minimum of 75% full-time professional effort

  • Support: 2 years of salary support and fringe (subject to NIH salary cap); $25,000/year in Research Project and Training funds; $1,000/year in travel support


Additional Information:

  • The SCTR KL2 award is available to eligible early career faculty staff at MUSC - those holding VA appointments must obtain prior approval before submission; contact Diana Lee-Chavarria for approval.

  • Mentors must have MUSC faculty appointments, but consultants may be selected from other academic institutions.

  • eRA Commons user IDs are required for all KL2 scholar applicants, mentors, and consultants. Please contact the Office of Research & Sponsored Programs at 843.792.7198 or orsp@musc.edu if you need to obtain an ID. Consultants from outside of MUSC should contact their institution's sponsored awards office to obtain an ID.
